Edo state governor Monday Okpebholo has officially appointed renowned nollywood actress and entrepreneur mercy johnson-okojie as special adviser on public engagement and advocacy, a role aimed at boosting how the government communicates and connects with ordinary citizens. the appointment was revealed in a statement by the secretary to the state government, musa ikhilor, on thursday, describing Mercy as one of nigeria’s most celebrated film stars with a career spanning nearly two decades and more than 200 movies.
the governor’s office said the move is part of its strategy to strengthen public understanding of government policies and programmes, with Mercy Johnson expected to use her wide influence and grassroots reach to foster better engagement between the state and the people.
beyond her entertainment career, johnson-okojie is also a philanthropist and founder of the mercy johnson-okojie foundation, which focuses on women’s empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare initiatives.
Her husband, Odianosen Ojokie, serves as a federal lawmaker representing esan north east/south east in the house of representatives, adding a political dimension to her new role.
