American entertainer Nick Cannon has opened up about his decision to father 12 children across six women, revealing that much of it was tied to unresolved emotional pain following his 2016 divorce from Mariah Carey.
Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Cannon described his behavior post-divorce as “careless” and “frivolous,” admitting he used relationships as distractions instead of seeking proper healing. He said he had the financial means and freedom to move as he wanted, which contributed to decisions he now views through a lens of hindsight.
Despite acknowledging that he might have done things differently had he taken time to reflect and heal earlier, Cannon emphasized that each of his children was conceived in love and that he supports his “family infrastructure” fully.
He also revealed that being nearly 45 has given him perspective: he believes if he had prioritized therapy or self-growth after his divorce, some of the paths he followed might have been more considered. Still, he said he’s not bitter and stands by his decisions.
