Buckle up Nicki Minaj is heading to the United Nations, and she’s using her star power to shine a spotlight on a very serious issue: the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
The rap icon is expected to speak alongside U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Michael Waltz, at a high-level event organized in part by a Trump adviser, Alex Bruesewitz. Waltz praised her for not staying silent in the face of what they call “atrocities” against Nigerian Christians.
Minaj responded emotionally: she said she’s deeply grateful for the opportunity and that her influence, given by God, comes with a purpose. “The Barbz & I will never stand down in the face of injustice,” she declared.
Her involvement is being framed as a global call for religious freedom, but it’s not without controversy. Some Nigerians say she might be oversimplifying a complex crisis, while others applaud her for using her platform to elevate a conversation that’s been raging for years.
