Omowunmi, the wife of late singer Mohbad, has called on Nigerians to appeal to her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, to allow his son to be buried.
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, after receiving an injection from nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe. He was buried the next day, but his body was later exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy. Eighteen months later, his remains are still in the morgue.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Omowunmi expressed frustration over the delay and accused Aloba of keeping the case going for personal gain rather than justice.
"It has been 18 months since my husband passed away. Eighteen months of waking up to a painful reality, missing him with every breath," she wrote. "Yet, his body is still in the morgue, denied a proper burial."
Omowunmi claimed her father-in-law is prolonging the situation to maintain public sympathy and financial benefits.
"He knows that once my husband is finally laid to rest, the donations and attention will stop. He is dragging this out, not for justice, but because he benefits from it," she added.
She also accused social media influencers of profiting from Mohbad’s death, saying some even pay Aloba a monthly salary from their earnings.
Aloba, however, insists that Mohbad will not be reburied until a DNA test confirms the paternity of his grandson, Liam. Mohbad’s mother, Abosede, on the other hand, has accused him of deliberately delaying the test.
