The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has mourned the death of popular evangelist, Reverend Uma Ukpai, describing him as “a true general in the army of God” and “a man of unshakable faith.”
In a tribute shared on his official social media pages, Pastor Adeboye said he visited the late preacher’s home earlier in the day to comfort his family.
“Earlier today, I paid a condolence visit to the residence of my dear friend and brother, Reverend Uma Ukpai, who has gone to be with the Lord,” he wrote.
Adeboye praised the late evangelist for his humility, faith, and lifelong dedication to preaching the gospel.
“Reverend Uma Ukpai was not just a minister of the gospel; he was a true general in the army of our God, a man of unshakable faith, quiet strength, and uncommon humility. His life was a living sermon — one that spoke louder than words,” Adeboye said.
He added that Ukpai had “fought the good fight and finished his course,” noting that he now rests peacefully “in the everlasting arms of the Almighty.”
“To his beloved wife, Pastor Philomena Ukpai, and the entire Ukpai family, we extend our heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathies. May the Lord comfort your hearts and strengthen you in this time of loss,” he wrote.
Adeboye ended his message with comforting words, saying his friend “has not died but only changed address.”
“My friend has not died; he has only changed address, moving from the field of battle to the presence of his Commander-in-Chief. He is home and at rest,” he said.
Reverend Uma Ukpai, founder and president of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, was one of Nigeria’s most respected Christian leaders. He was known for his nationwide crusades and ministry work across the world. He died on October 6, at the age of 80.
