Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have secured their place in the UEFA Champions League final after a 1-1 draw in the second-leg semi-final against Bayern Munich, completing a 6-5 aggregate victory on Wednesday.

The French giants started strong, with Ousmane Dembele putting PSG ahead early on with a counter-attacking goal less than three minutes into the match. The goal gave PSG a two-goal cushion in the tie, extending their advantage from the 5-4 win in the first leg in Paris.

Dembele’s Early Goal Sets the Tone for PSG

Bayern, despite their best efforts, struggled to break down PSG’s defense. Dembele’s goal came from a perfectly timed through ball by Fabian Ruiz, allowing the French forward to race past Bayern’s defense and slot the ball home. The early goal rattled Bayern, who were hoping to build on their impressive quarter-final comeback against Real Madrid.

PSG, while maintaining their defensive composure, almost doubled their lead, but Bayern’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer made a crucial save, tipping a header from Joao Neves just wide of the post.

Bayern’s Frustration and Missed Opportunities

Despite enjoying possession, Bayern’s attacks lacked precision. Key players like Michael Olise and Harry Kane struggled to create meaningful chances, with Kane’s stoppage-time goal being the only breakthrough. Bayern’s frustration was evident, with players appealing for a penalty after Vitinha’s clearance struck Joao Neves’s arm, but the referee waved off the claims.

PSG, who had been playing with great tactical discipline, continued to threaten on the counter-attack, while Bayern’s attacking efforts were thwarted by well-organized defending from the visitors.

Bayern’s Late Goal Proves Insufficient

As the match wore on, Bayern pushed for an equalizer, dominating possession and territory but failing to break PSG’s defense. Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich both had chances but were unable to score, with Musiala’s low shot saved by PSG’s Matvey Safonov and Kimmich blasting over the bar.

In the dying minutes, Bayern’s persistence finally paid off when Harry Kane scored in stoppage time, extending his record of scoring in seven consecutive Champions League matches. However, it was too little, too late for the Bavarians as PSG held on for the aggregate victory.

PSG Eye Back-to-Back Champions League Titles

The win sets up a thrilling final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal on May 30, 2026, in Budapest. PSG, who are aiming to become only the second team to win back-to-back Champions League titles since Real Madrid, will head into the final as favorites. The French club will look to defend their crown and cap off a season that could see them secure both the Ligue 1 and Champions League titles.

Bayern’s Disappointment and Future Uncertainty

For Bayern Munich, the defeat marks another year without reaching the Champions League final, having last won the competition in 2020. With their fourth loss of the season, questions will linger about what went wrong for a team that had high expectations heading into the semi-finals.
