Controversy is swirling around Nigerian music star, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, after an online user accused him of using the Nigeria Police Force to harass and detain a contractor, Amaka Obasi, over an unpaid project.

The allegations surfaced Tuesday on X, where a user, @software_artist claimed that Amaka, who had worked on multiple renovation projects for Rema and his family, was lured into a police meeting at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Alagbon, only to be arrested and detained.

According to the thread, Amaka and Rema initially agreed on a contract to renovate his new house. The scope of work later expanded to include building a music studio and installing an upgraded water system. But when it was time to settle the bill, the online source alleged, Rema turned to the police instead of payment.

The posts further claimed that Amaka was forced to pay over ₦1 million as bail and has been harassed with police involvement at least three times since last year. It was also alleged that Rema’s mother wrote a fresh petition accusing Amaka of “substandard work” on her Benin residence in 2023 despite allegedly commissioning her for more projects in 2024.

At the time of filing this report, neither Rema nor the Nigeria Police Force had issued a formal response to the allegations. The story has already sparked outrage online, with many questioning the alleged use of state security agencies in private disputes.
