Samsung has introduced its first triple-folding smartphone, called the Galaxy Z TriFold. The phone was shown to the public on Tuesday in Seoul.

The device will be released on December 12 and will cost $2,443, making it more than twice the price of the iPhone 17. Because of the high cost, Samsung says it is not designed for mass sales.

The Galaxy Z TriFold unfolds into a 10-inch screen, giving users more space to watch videos, work or create content. It is very thin and weighs 309 grams. It comes only in black.

Samsung is not the first company to make a triple-fold phone. China’s Huawei launched a similar phone last year, also at a very high price.

Smartphone makers are now trying new designs to stand out, as global sales have slowed in recent years.

The new Samsung device also includes AI features that can help users in real time through screen sharing or the camera.

The launch comes as new reports show that Apple may overtake Samsung as the world’s top smartphone maker for the first time in 14 years. Research firm Counterpoint says Apple could reach a 19.4% global market share in 2025, slightly ahead of Samsung’s 18.7%.

Apple is also rumoured to be working on its own foldable iPhone, possibly coming next year.
