Sunderland shocked Chelsea with a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time goal from Chemsdine Talbi.

The result, unexpected by many lifted Sunderland to second place in the Premier League table after recording their fifth win in nine games. The visitors showed great discipline and determination, while Chelsea once again failed to make their chances count.

Chelsea started strong and took the lead through Alejandro Garnacho, who finished off a fast counter-attack in the first half. But Sunderland responded before the break, with Wilson Isidor pouncing on poor defending to level the score.

At 1-1, both teams battled for control in the second half. Chelsea pressed forward, but Sunderland’s defence stayed firm. BBC reporter Chris Wise praised their composure, saying, “They’ve shown self-belief to respond to Garnacho’s goal. Chelsea have made them absorb pressure, but Sunderland are limiting Maresca’s men to half-chances.”

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo almost restored the lead with a long-range strike, but Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs pulled off a fine save. Roefs also denied Garnacho and Marc Guiu as Chelsea pushed hard late in the game.

In the dying moments, Sunderland broke forward, and Talbi’s cool finish silenced the home crowd — sealing a famous win for the Black Cats.

It was another frustrating night for Enzo Maresca’s side, who failed to turn dominance into points, while Sunderland celebrated one of their best away wins of the season.
