Media personality, Toke Makinwa, has explained why she stopped paying tithes to churches, stating that many churches she is familiar with are financially buoyant.

Makinwa made the disclosure during a recent interview on WithChude, where she spoke on her evolving approach to giving and charity.

According to her, several churches consistently embark on building projects funded by members, noting that congregants are often presented with building fund appeals during services.

She said, “Every church is building. Every Sunday, there’s a building fund envelope. You guys have so much money and it’s not taxed, it’s a business, if we are going to be real, because if that pastor dies today, either his wife or his child becomes the next pastor.”

Makinwa, however, clarified that she still gives offerings in church and supports church needs when necessary.

She explained that she now prefers to channel her tithe towards assisting individuals directly, including helping people with house rent, supporting widows and settling hospital or maternity bills.

She added that she believes she is led to use her resources to address immediate and practical needs of people.
