South African singer Tyla has quietly removed Lagos from her upcoming world tour schedule, just days after announcing a performance in the Nigerian city to promote her second album, A*POP.
The initial 34-city list published on her official website included Lagos alongside South African cities Johannesburg and Cape Town. However, an updated schedule released on Friday omitted the Nigerian stop following intense public pushback online.
Calls for boycott and rising diplomatic friction
While no official reason was provided for the removal, the decision follows growing calls in Nigeria for the 24-year-old Grammy winner to skip the country. The backlash stems from recent waves of anti-migrant protests in South Africa that have targeted foreign nationals, leading to large-scale repatriations of Nigerian citizens.
Critics online accused the singer of remaining silent on the anti-migrant sentiment, prompting thousands to sign an online petition demanding her performance be canceled until safety and diplomatic concerns are addressed.
