Nigerian music legend 2Baba has stirred major reactions after boldly claiming that Nigeria is in a better place today than it was years ago.
Speaking during a recent interview on Wazobia FM/TV, the award-winning singer expressed optimism about the country’s progress despite the many challenges Nigerians still face. According to him, “we are better off than so many years ago, if you look at it.”
His statement came after the host referenced his classic protest song “E Be Like Say,” pointing out that many of the same issues he once sang about are still happening today. But 2Baba insisted that while problems remain, there has been noticeable growth over time.
However, the singer didn’t stop there he also called out Nigerians for what he described as a culture of blame-shifting. He argued that many citizens fail to take personal responsibility, often blaming the government for everyday issues.
He further highlighted low civic awareness, noting that many people don’t even know their local representatives, adding that public discourse is often driven by misinformation rather than facts.
Despite his optimistic stance, 2Baba acknowledged that Nigeria still faces serious economic and security challenges. He admitted that leadership in the country is extremely difficult, saying he sometimes feels sympathy for those in power.
The comment has since sparked mixed reactions online. While some agree that Nigeria has made gradual progress over the years, others strongly disagree, pointing to rising living costs and insecurity as evidence to the contrary.
In typical 2Baba fashion, the singer also reaffirmed his commitment to nation-building, declaring himself a “self-appointed ambassador” of Nigeria, determined to keep promoting the country positively on the global stage.
Love it or hate it, one thing is clear his statement has reignited a conversation Nigerians never seem to stop having.
