Nigerian rapper and singer Superboy Cheque has opened up about a painful chapter in his life, revealing that a battle with severe acne once pushed him to the brink of quitting music.

Speaking in a recent interview on Yanga FM, the ‘Zoom’ crooner said his desperation to clear his skin led him to use a makeup product that badly damaged his face.

Cheque, who described himself as a perfectionist, said the experience deeply affected his confidence, especially after his breakthrough in the music industry.

“I struggled with acne years back. It was terrible. My desperation to cure it led me to buy a makeup that almost disfigured my face. It was embarrassing. I almost quit music. I couldn’t even approach women then,” he said.

The singer explained that the pressure intensified after his hit song ‘Zoom’ gained popularity and he secured a record deal, knowing he would constantly be in the public eye.

“After my breakthrough song ‘Zoom’ and I got signed by a record label, it dawned on me that I would be attending interviews and would be in front of cameras. I am a perfectionist. So, I went to get a makeup from a store to clear but instead it almost disfigured my face. I woke up one morning and realised that my whole face has been damaged,” he recalled.

According to him, the incident left him embarrassed and struggling with self-esteem, forcing him to avoid cameras and social interactions for a period.
