Nollywood actor, Olumide Oworu, has shared insights into his growing interest in politics and his ambition to influence policy-making in Nigeria.
Speaking with Naija FM, the 31-year-old actor said his motivation stems from a desire to impact the country’s policymaking landscape, which he believes affects millions of Nigerians, including himself.
“I decided to join politics because of how the country is going. I know how Nigeria was when I was younger, but now, things keep getting worse. And I want to start a family and raise my kids here. So, I have to make sure that I try my best to be among the policymakers because whatever policy is being enacted, it would ultimately affect me like every other common person. And also, most of the present crops of politicians are aging out, and whatever policy they are making today, it is me and my friends who will be at the receiving end tomorrow,” Oworu explained.
Although he contested for a seat in the House of Assembly during the 2023 elections, he lost to Desmond Elliott. Despite the setback, Oworu remains committed to contributing to Nigeria’s political and policy landscape.
