Former Outlawz hip hop group member Mutah Napoleon Beale has revealed why a historic nineties collaboration between Tupac Shakur and Michael Jackson fell apart completely. According to the veteran musician, the California rap icon initially felt thrilled at the unprecedented career opportunity to record with the King of Pop. The excited artist even called his mother and close family members to share the monumental update before heading out to work.
However, the creative atmosphere shifted instantly once the legendary rap star arrived at the designated professional recording facility. Studio engineers informed Tupac that the pop icon would not be attending the music session in person to lay down the record. Instead, management requested that the rapper simply record his vocal contribution alone so they could attach it to the track later.
Strict studio etiquette and rap rivalries cancel project
This detached studio arrangement deeply offended Tupac, who viewed music as a product of shared human connection and mutual artistic respect. Unwilling to compromise his personal morals for a high-profile feature, the proud artist refused to record his verse and walked out immediately. However, music historians note that this studio walkout was only the final breakdown of a project that faced backstage complications.
The initial idea for the track had actually come from music producer QD3, who was producing Tupac’s final album project. He originally tried to get Michael Jackson to feature on the song Thug Nature, which heavily sampled Jackson’s classic hit single Human Nature. However, the pop legend had initially hesitated to join the track out of strict loyalty to Tupac’s main rival, The Notorious B.I.G.
