British rapper and YouTuber Yung Filly has been acquitted on three counts of sexual penetration without consent but convicted of two assault offences in Australia.
A 12-member jury reached the verdict after more than 10 hours of deliberations.
The 30-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was also found not guilty of assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation.
However, the jury could not reach verdicts on three additional counts of sexual penetration without consent.
Barrientos will remain on bail until 21 August, when the court is expected to determine a date for his sentencing over the two assault convictions.
Prosecutors will also decide whether to pursue the three unresolved sexual offence charges.
What the jury’s decision means
The verdict does not end every aspect of the case.
Barrientos has been cleared of three sexual penetration charges, assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation. He faces sentencing only for the two assault offences on which he was convicted.
The three charges on which jurors could not agree remain unresolved and could be pursued again, depending on the prosecution’s decision.
The case arose from an encounter with a woman who was 20 at the time at a Perth hotel in September 2024. She cannot be identified for legal reasons.
Prosecutor Danielle Clarke alleged that the encounter began consensually but later became violent after the woman withdrew her consent.
“What could have been and should have been consensual sex quickly escalated into sexual violence and a non-consensual nightmare,” Clarke told the court.
Barrientos denied forcing the woman to continue after she withdrew consent. He acknowledged biting her during the encounter but maintained that his actions were consensual.
Defence barrister David Edwardson argued that the complainant’s account contained inconsistencies and rejected claims that Barrientos had exploited his celebrity status.
Barrientos told the court that he met the woman at a Perth nightclub after his performance and was attracted to her.
He also admitted that his bodyguard collected her phone before she entered the hotel room but said this was a standard privacy measure rather than an attempt to prevent her from leaving.
The Colombian-born entertainer was touring Australia when he was arrested several days later in Brisbane.
