Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has stated that marriage is “overrated,” though she remains open to the possibility of remarrying. The 42-year-old movie star made the comments during a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos.

“I am open to remarriage if it comes, but I am not looking for it,” Jegede explained, adding, “I have learnt not to say ‘never’.” She went on to express her view that marriage is often overemphasized. “A lot of people who dated for 10 to 15 years, got married and they broke up within 2 to 3 years. Sometimes, you wonder why such couples didn’t just remain unmarried. Because when they add the marriage tag, a lot of intolerance gets in the way,” she said. Jegede suggested that cohabiting with a loved one might be a better option.

9Ja Online Magazine recalls that Jegede’s marriage to Olakunle Abounce Fawole ended in 2019 after less than a year. She previously cited financial imbalance and a lack of respect as factors in their separation, revealing she was the primary provider in the relationship.
