The burial date has been announced for Mrs Rosemary Oromoni, mother of the late Dowen College student, Sylvester Oromoni Jr.

Mrs Oromoni passed away in November 2024, three years after the death of her son, which sparked national attention and public outrage. She will be laid to rest on August 9, 2025, at the family home in Warri, Delta State.

Family sources said Mrs Oromoni struggled with depression and high blood pressure after losing her son and going through a long legal battle that followed his death.

Sylvester Jr., 12, died in November 2021. His family claimed he was beaten and forced to drink a harmful substance by senior students. But Dowen College said he was injured while playing football.

Several autopsies were carried out, with one suggesting he was poisoned, while another concluded he died from sepsis, a natural cause. A Lagos coroner later ruled that no foul play was involved. The students accused in the case were cleared, and no one was prosecuted.

The Oromoni family, unhappy with the outcome, refused to bury their son for over two years. He was finally buried in January 2024. Just months after, his mother died.

With the latest announcement, the family says Mrs Oromoni will finally be laid to rest in a ceremony expected to be attended by relatives, friends, and sympathizers.
