Amorim admits Man United are falling short

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has admitted that both he and the team are not doing well enough this season.

United play Bournemouth on Monday, knowing a win would keep them in the Premier League top six for a second straight week. That would be a rare moment of progress, as the club has struggled for consistency since last season.

The situation highlights how far United have dropped from their glory years under Sir Alex Ferguson, when finishing outside the top three was almost unthinkable.

Former midfielder Paul Scholes recently questioned Amorim’s suitability for the job, saying his style of play does not match United’s traditional use of wingers.

Amorim said such criticism is expected.

“When you manage Manchester United and the team is not winning enough games, criticism is normal,” he said. “We should have more points this season, and I accept that.”

He added that former players judge the club by the high standards they once lived by.

“They were used to winning all the time. Seeing the club like this is difficult for them,” he said.

Amorim stressed that the real problem is results, not opinions.

“If we were winning, nobody would complain,” he said. “I know I’m not doing well enough, and I can live with that.”
