Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says he is “frustrated and angry” after his team failed to secure a win against West Ham at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
United were leading through Diogo Dalot’s goal in the 58th minute and looked set to move up to fifth place in the Premier League. But Soungoutou Magassa scored for West Ham in the 83rd minute to make it 1-1.
Magassa reacted fastest after Jarrod Bowen’s header was cleared off the line by Noussair Mazraoui.
Amorim blamed his team’s lack of fight in the closing stages.
“Frustrated, angry, that’s it,” he said. “It came from a long ball, and they won the second ball against three of our players. In the final minutes, the ball should be far from the opponent. We cannot allow a taller team to get a corner.”
United fans booed after the final whistle as the team missed another chance to climb the table.
It was the second straight home match where United failed to win. Last week, they lost 1-0 to Everton, who played most of the match with 10 men.
Despite West Ham starting and finishing the day in the relegation zone, United could not secure victory. Amorim’s side are now eighth in the Premier League, with six wins, four draws and four defeats this season.
