The identity of the driver involved in the deadly road accident that left two of British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua’s friends dead has been revealed.
Respected journalist Seun Oloketuyi disclosed on social media on January 2 that 47-year-old Kayode Adeniyi was behind the wheel of the Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Makun, Ogun State, on December 29, 2025. Adeniyi was reportedly interrogated and detained at Eleweiran Police Station, where he gave his account of the events leading to the crash. He now faces a two-count charge of reckless driving and manslaughter.
The Ogun State Police Command had announced the arrest of the driver, and confirmed by DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, revealing that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
The accident claimed the lives of Latif “Latz” Ayodele, Joshua’s personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, both in their mid-30s. Their bodies have been flown out of Nigeria. Joshua and the other passengers survived, with the former world heavyweight champion sustaining minor injuries.
The revelation of the driver’s identity has sparked widespread reactions on social media, as fans mourn the loss of Ayodele and Ghami while expressing relief that Joshua survived the crash.
