Popular Nigerian content creator Asherkine has responded to allegations that his recent viral giveaway video was staged for social media views.
The controversy began after a video surfaced showing Asherkine flying a young woman from Ogun State to South Africa, where she received several luxury surprises as part of a giveaway. The video quickly gained traction online, but some social media users claimed the entire encounter was scripted.
Reacting to the criticism, Asherkine released a detailed statement on social media denying the claims. He insisted the encounter was genuine and said critics were simply finding it hard to believe that a young woman living and working in Ogun could experience such opportunities.
The content creator added that the woman involved has family in Lagos, which is only about two hours from Ogun State, making their meeting and interaction completely believable. He also noted that he personally has relatives in Ogun, further explaining how the connection happened.
Reflecting on his own journey, Asherkine said he began hustling at 17, filming entertainers at events and gradually building his career in the digital content space. By the age of 20, he was already juggling multiple jobs while creating content and documenting performances for artists such as Yhemolee, Asake and Ashidapo.
He emphasized that his success today is the result of years of hard work and dedication, not staged content. Asherkine also clarified that the South Africa giveaway video followed events that happened over an entire week, countering claims that it was a scripted 48-hour production.
He concluded by saying he would not allow negative narratives to ruin the experience for the young woman involved or discredit the type of videos he creates.
