Nigerian pastor, Kingsley Okonkwo, has responded to the backlash over a tattoo he recently drew on his hand, insisting that the Bible contains no scripture prohibiting Christians from getting tattoos.
In a video shared online, Okonkwo explained that opposition to tattoos largely stems from church doctrines and personal beliefs, rather than biblical injunctions.
“There’s no scripture that says a child of God cannot have a tattoo. So people are doing personal preference of what the Holy Spirit told them or what their church policy is and then they want to impose it on others. This isn’t how these things work,” he said.
Okonkwo stressed that Christians should be guided by their personal walk with Christ and understanding of God’s word, rather than public opinion or religious pressure.
“Somebody needs to sit me down and spell it out that tattoos are bad. If someone draws ink on their body, their brain goes back or their attitude changes? They must give me scriptural and scientific proof to back this up. But nobody can tell me why tattoos are bad… everybody is just shouting,” he added.
The pastor’s remarks come amid growing debates online about body art among Christians, with many arguing that tattoos are a matter of personal conviction rather than religious prohibition.
