Controversial Nigerian rapper, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has taken aim at Nigerian artistes who failed to win at the 68th Grammy Awards.

In a video shared online, Speed Darlington criticised Nigerian musicians for relying on Western validation rather than focusing on their own talent and creativity. He also claimed that previous successes at the Grammys were influenced more by powerful industry connections than merit.

“Oil Grammy o, oil Grammy. If you put am for nyash, you go win Grammy. Omo, you understand me? Long face… anything for greatness, anything for oyinbo to include you. Thank God I no send Oyinbo. I just dey use Oyinbo country to do levels,” he said.

The rapper’s remarks follow a night of disappointment for Nigeria, as no Nigerian artiste clinched an award at the ceremony, including in the Best African Music Performance category.

Speed Darlington’s comments have sparked reactions online, with some praising his boldness while others criticised him for mocking fellow artistes amid the country’s growing influence on the global music stage.
