Nigerian fashion designer Ruth Erikan James, popularly known as Veekee James, has announced that she and her husband, Femi Atere, are expecting their first child.
The designer shared the joyful news on Instagram, posting a short video featuring herself and Atere at a brown‑pastel themed venue. Both were dressed in coordinated tan outfits, with Veekee’s baby bump and ultrasound images featured in the clips. She captioned the post: “And two shall become 3. Indeed, this is what only GOD can do.”
Veekee James, a leading figure in Nigeria’s fashion industry, launched her brand in 2019 and quickly gained recognition for her luxury bridal and couture designs. Her sculptural, form-fitting wedding dresses and red-carpet gowns have been worn by high-profile clients across Africa. In 2021, she was named AMVCA Best Designer of the Year.
Born on June 9, 1994, in Akwa Ibom State and raised in Lagos, Veekee developed an interest in fashion early, inspired by her mother’s tailoring work. Over the years, she has expanded her brand to include menswear and ready-to-wear lines, establishing herself as a trendsetter and influential voice in Nigeria’s fashion scene.
Veekee and Atere, who got engaged in December 2023 and married in February 2024 in a widely celebrated ceremony, have often shared glimpses of their life together on social media. In late 2025, fans speculated about a possible pregnancy after noticing subtle changes in Veekee’s appearance, though the couple had not commented at the time.
The announcement has since drawn an outpouring of congratulatory messages and prayers from fans, friends, and colleagues, wishing the couple a safe pregnancy and delivery.
