Spanish winger Nico Williams has signed a new long-term contract with Athletic Club, ending rumours of a move to Barcelona.
Top transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Thursday that the 21-year-old will now stay at the club until June 2035.
The new deal includes a higher salary and a bigger release clause, which is now more than 50% higher than his previous €58 million clause.
Williams had been strongly linked to Barcelona this summer, especially after his impressive performance at Euro 2024. However, the deal has now collapsed due to registration problems at the Catalan club.
With the new contract, Athletic Club have managed to keep one of their most important young stars. Nico, the younger brother of Iñaki Williams, has become a key player for both club and country.
This signing is seen as a big boost for Athletic Club as they prepare for the new season.
