Less than 24 hours after setting the World Cup final stage ablaze, Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy and Colombian icon Shakira have achieved another global milestone with “Dai Dai.”

The official 2026 FIFA World Cup song has reportedly surpassed 800 million combined streams and video views across Spotify and YouTube, completing a remarkable run that began before the tournament kicked off.

“Dai Dai” has recorded more than 200 million Spotify streams, while its official video and other related uploads have attracted hundreds of millions of views on YouTube.

The milestone followed the pair’s electrifying performance at the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show on Sunday, where they delivered the anthem before a global audience watching Spain battle Argentina.

Earlier, 9jaonline reported how Burna Boy joined Shakira during the historic show at the New York New Jersey Stadium, which also featured Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber and Coldplay.

Released in May through Sony Music Latin, “Dai Dai” blends Burna Boy’s Afrobeats sound with Shakira’s Latin-pop energy, creating a cross-cultural anthem that connected with football supporters across several continents.

FIFA adopted the track throughout the tournament, while fans used it widely in match-day celebrations, social-media videos and victory parties.

Why ‘Dai Dai’ became the sound of the World Cup

From an entertainment-marketing perspective, the success of “Dai Dai” was driven by more than the fame of its two performers.

Shakira brought decades of World Cup history and an established global audience, while Burna Boy provided the African identity and contemporary Afrobeats influence needed to reach a younger generation.

The decision to feature the song at both the tournament’s opening ceremony and the final halftime show also provided enormous exposure that a conventional music campaign could rarely achieve.

Its energetic rhythm, memorable chorus and fusion of African and Latin sounds made it suitable for stadium celebrations, short videos and international radio.

The song also reached No. 1 on Spotify’s Weekly Global chart during the tournament, earning more than 30 million streams in one tracking week.

Its success makes it one of the biggest new World Cup songs of the digital era and the most-viewed official tournament music video released since Shakira’s “La La La” for Brazil 2014.

Beyond its commercial performance, “Dai Dai” supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. Shakira committed her royalties from the song to the initiative, while Sony Music pledged to match the first $250,000 raised. FIFA confirmed the initiative.

For Burna Boy, the milestone represents another major breakthrough for African music, placing a Nigerian artist at the centre of the world’s biggest sporting and entertainment spectacle.

For Shakira, it strengthens her position as the artist most closely associated with World Cup music, extending a legacy that includes “Waka Waka” and “La La La.”
