Controversial street-pop singer Portable has challenged Terry G to a celebrity boxing fight, claiming the proposed encounter would revive the veteran musician’s career.
Portable issued the challenge during an appearance on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds programme on Sunday.
When asked to name the celebrity he would most like to face in the ring, the “Zazuu” singer immediately selected Terry G.
“I want to fight Terry G,” Portable declared.
The interviewer suggested social media activist VeryDarkMan as a possible opponent, but Portable rejected the option and maintained that Terry G remained his preferred target.
“If Terry G fights me one-on-one in boxing, he will rise again. People will remember him again,” he said.
Portable claimed that the attention surrounding a fight involving him would return Terry G to the spotlight and generate renewed public interest in the singer’s music.
The Ogun-born entertainer said he intended to pursue the bout after his scheduled July 31 rematch against Nollywood actor Charles Okocha and a planned trip to London.
Why a Portable–Terry G fight could attract attention
Beyond Portable’s provocative comments, the proposed contest carries obvious entertainment value.
Both singers built their public identities around energetic street music, unconventional performances and unpredictable personalities. Terry G represents an earlier generation of Nigerian street-pop, while Portable has become one of the genre’s most controversial modern figures.
A bout between them would therefore combine nostalgia with social-media spectacle—two ingredients that have helped celebrity boxing attract audiences beyond traditional sports fans.
However, the contest remains only a public challenge. No promoter, venue or date has been announced, while Terry G has not accepted the proposal.
Portable has already established himself as one of Nigeria’s most visible celebrity-boxing participants.
He defeated Charles Okocha by decision in December 2023 before recording a technical-knockout victory over Speed Darlington in April 2025.
His unbeaten run ended in May 2026 when skit maker Carter Efe outclassed him over three rounds to secure a unanimous-decision victory.
Portable is now preparing to face Okocha again at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, on July 31. Channels Television confirmed his challenge and boxing record.
Terry G, whose real name is Gabriel Oche Amanyi, became one of Nigeria’s leading street-hop performers in the late 2000s through songs such as “Free Madness,” “Akpako” and “Run Mad.”
The singer announced in February that he was beginning a new career chapter under Prime Crest Entertainment, with a new single titled “Away.” His relaunch suggests Portable’s “career revival” claim may be more of a promotional taunt than a complete reflection of Terry G’s current activities.
