Vince Zampella, the co-creator of the global video game hit Call of Duty, has died in a car accident, US media reported.

According to NBC4, Zampella, CEO of Respawn Entertainment, died on Sunday while driving his Ferrari on a scenic road north of Los Angeles.

Zampella was widely celebrated for his work in the gaming industry. He co-created the Call of Duty franchise and founded Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind popular games including Titanfall, Apex Legends, and the Star Wars Jedi series.

He began his career in the 1990s as a game designer and co-founded Infinity Ward in 2002. The studio launched Call of Duty in 2003, which later became one of the world’s best-selling video game franchises under Activision.

After leaving Activision under contentious circumstances, Zampella established Respawn Entertainment in 2010. The studio was acquired by Electronic Arts in 2017, and Zampella later led efforts to revitalize the Battlefield franchise.
