An Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode has rejected a request by Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1, to stop the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
Justice A. A. Omoniyi gave the ruling on Monday, saying the application for an interim injunction had no strong basis.
KWAM1 had asked the court to stop Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and others from continuing the Awujale selection process until his main case is heard.
The judge dismissed the request but ordered that the main case should be heard quickly. He fixed January 14, 2026, for the hearing.
The Fuji singer had earlier declared interest in the vacant Awujale stool, claiming he belongs to the Jadiara Royal House of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
However, the Fusengbuwa ruling house rejected his claim, saying he is not a member of the royal family.
After the rejection, KWAM1 filed a suit against the ruling house, Governor Abiodun, the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu, and other officials.
Other defendants include the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat; the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Oke Adebanjo; and the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, Dr Sunny Kuku.
With the court’s decision, the Awujale selection process will continue while the case comes up for hearing in January.
