Chelsea made history on Wednesday night after coming from behind to defeat Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final held in Wroclaw, Poland.
With this win, Chelsea became the first football club to win all four major European trophies — the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, and the now-defunct Cup Winners’ Cup.
Betis shocked the favourites early in the game, taking the lead in the 9th minute through Moroccan winger Abde Ezzalzouli. He fired a low left-footed shot past Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen after a quick counter-attack.
The Spanish side looked dangerous in the first half, creating several chances and nearly adding a second goal, but Chelsea held on. At halftime, Chelsea trailed 1-0.
However, Chelsea returned stronger in the second half. Manager Enzo Maresca brought on captain Reece James for Malo Gusto, and the team quickly turned things around.
Cole Palmer, who was named Man of the Match, played a key role. In the 65th minute, he delivered a perfect cross that Enzo Fernandez headed in for the equalizer. Just five minutes later, Palmer assisted again, finding Nicolas Jackson whose chest deflection made it 2-1.
- Jadon Sancho, coming off the bench, added a third goal in the 83rd minute with a sharp finish. Moises Caicedo sealed the win with a fourth goal late on.
This victory marked Chelsea’s first trophy since the club was bought by Todd Boehly’s group in 2022, ending a short silverware drought.
Before this game, Spanish teams had won all 27 of their most recent men’s finals in major tournaments — including World Cups, Euros, and European club competitions. Chelsea's win broke that streak.
Earlier in the day, fans filled the streets of Wroclaw, with Betis supporters outnumbering Chelsea fans. Police reported 28 arrests after clashes broke out in the city centre.
Chelsea now add another European trophy to their cabinet — and a night to remember in Poland.
