Trabzonspor defender Chibuike Nwaiwu has been given a two-match European suspension following his red card in the first leg of his side’s UEFA Europa League playoff encounter against Ferencváros. The dismissal occurred in the closing stages of a 1-0 defeat, where Kristoffer Zachariassen scored the winning goal in the 17th minute.

The disciplinary action rules the 23-year-old Nigeria international out of the second leg at the Ferencváros Stadion, while also excluding him from the opening matchday fixture of the main stage should the Turkish club overturn the aggregate deficit. Since making his move from Austrian side Wolfsberger AC in January, the centre-back has established himself as a key figure in Trabzonspor’s backline, starting both of their league fixtures so far this season.
