A Federal High Court in Abuja has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release businesswoman and socialite, Aisha Achimugu, within 24 hours.

Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the order on Wednesday and asked the EFCC and other parties involved to return to court on May 2 to confirm they have obeyed the order.

EFCC officers brought Achimugu to court on Wednesday, as earlier directed by the judge. She arrived around 11:35 a.m., surrounded by two female EFCC agents.

Earlier this week, on Monday, the judge had asked Achimugu — who was believed to have left the country — to appear at the EFCC office by 12 noon on Tuesday. He also told the EFCC to bring her to court on Wednesday for a report on the matter.

According to reports, Achimugu was arrested by EFCC officials when she arrived back in Nigeria around 5 a.m. and was kept in custody.

The court will now wait until May 2 to see if the EFCC follows the order to release her.
