Portugal and Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo is closing in on an incredible football record, becoming the first male player to score 1,000 career goals.

According to Sky Sports, Ronaldo’s recent brace against Hungary in the World Cup qualifiers has taken his total to 948 career goals, with 805 scored at club level and 143 for Portugal.

The 40-year-old also became the highest goalscorer in World Cup qualifying history, surpassing Guatemala’s Carlos Ruiz (39 goals). Argentina’s Lionel Messi sits third on the list with 36.

Despite his age, Ronaldo continues to produce stunning numbers. Since joining Saudi club Al Nassr, he has scored 104 goals in 117 games across four seasons.

So far in 2025, Ronaldo has scored 32 goals for both club and country — showing no signs of slowing down.

The Portuguese captain has averaged over 50 goals per year since 2010, with his most prolific year being 2013, when he netted 69 goals and won the Ballon d’Or.

Remarkably, Ronaldo’s goal tally has only dropped below 39 once in the past 15 years.

With Portugal likely to qualify for next summer’s World Cup and two years remaining on his Al Nassr contract, analysts predict Ronaldo could reach the 1,000-goal mark by October 2026 — setting a record that may stand for generations.
