Manager of Crystal Palace F.C., Oliver Glasner, has been banned from driving for six months after he was caught speeding in a 20mph zone in London.
Glasner, 51, was recorded by a speed camera driving at 29mph along Old Kent Road in Bermondsey, an area with a 20mph speed limit.
The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. on July 15 last year.
The Austrian football manager later pleaded guilty to the offence at Willesden Magistrates’ Court, where he also submitted a handwritten letter promising not to break the law again in an attempt to avoid a driving ban.
“I fully accept responsibility for my actions and understand the seriousness of this matter,” Glasner told magistrates.
Despite his plea, the court imposed a six-month driving ban on the Crystal Palace boss.
He was also ordered to pay a £660 fine, £130 in court costs and a £264 victim surcharge.
The prosecution was brought by the Metropolitan Police Service, which explained that Glasner initially attempted to settle the matter by paying a fine.
However, the payment could not resolve the case because the additional penalty points would have taken the total on his licence to 12 or more, triggering an automatic driving ban.
As a result, the payment was refunded and the case was referred for prosecution.
Court documents showed that Glasner pleaded guilty in writing on January 27 and later acknowledged in a second letter on February 16 that a driving ban could be imposed.
The offence occurred just two months after he guided Crystal Palace to victory in the FA Cup during his first full season in charge of the club.
Reports also indicated that Glasner was among more than 1,000 motorists prosecuted last week for breaching 20mph speed limits across London.
