Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, has quietly resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), weeks before the party’s national convention — a move that has thrown Osun politics into fresh confusion.
The resignation, dated 4 November 2025, only became public late Monday after the governor’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, posted the letter on social media. The governor addressed it to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government.
Adeleke blamed the lingering crisis in the PDP’s national leadership for his decision.
The letter reads:
“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect.
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
His exit became a major talking point as the PDP struggled to conduct its Osun 2026 governorship primary scheduled for Tuesday. While the state chapter abruptly postponed the exercise over factional issues, the National Working Committee elected at the November 16 convention insisted the primary must hold. Adeleke is the only aspirant known to have purchased the form.
Meanwhile, speculations are intensifying that the governor is preparing to seek a second term on the platform of the Accord Party, which some of his aides are alleged to have already taken control of in Osun. His earlier attempt to defect to the APC reportedly hit resistance from the party’s state leadership.
Reacting to his uncle’s political move, Afrobeats superstar Davido posted a short but loaded message online: “Jeje… 😇” — interpreted by many as a calm, subtle acknowledgement of the unfolding drama.
Adeleke’s exit is expected to reshape political alignments in Osun as the state heads toward the 2026 governorship battle.
