D’Tigers crush Cameroon, book AfroBasket Quarter-Final spot

Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket in Angola after beating Cameroon 99-90 on Sunday.

Both teams had won their first two games, making the clash a straight fight for a place in the last eight.

Cameroon started strong with a quick 5-0 lead, but Nigeria responded fast and took the first quarter 28-25.

The second quarter was one-way traffic as coach Mohammed Abdul Rahman’s men dominated 32-16, going into halftime with a healthy 60-41 lead.

Nigeria stretched the gap further in the third quarter, winning it 26-12. Although Cameroon fought back late, taking the last quarter 37-13, the result was already sealed.

Statistically, D’Tigers were superior. They converted 57.4% of their shots, grabbed 37 rebounds, and recorded 21 assists, 13 steals, and 3 blocks. Cameroon managed 41% shooting, 31 rebounds, and committed 16 turnovers.

Josh Okogie led Nigeria with 16 points, while Caleb Agada, Stan Okoye, Christian Mekowulu, Ike Nwamu, and Martins Igbanu also scored in double figures. Cameroon’s Fabien Ateba top-scored in the game with 19 points, supported by Yves Missi (18), Jeremiah Hill (16), and Bikantchou Gbetkom (10).

The win means Nigeria finished top of their group with three victories from three games. Cameroon came second, defending champions Tunisia placed third, while Madagascar crashed out after losing all their matches.
