Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has opened up about the controversy surrounding his hit song “Jagajaga” and his encounter with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

According to him, the situation began when he received a call while asleep, urging him to turn on the television only to hear Obasanjo publicly criticising both the song and him, even referring to him as a “stupid boy.”

Rather than feeling discouraged, the rapper said the criticism actually excited him, as it meant his message about the state of the country had reached the highest level of leadership.

He went on to narrate a surprising twist that happened months later at an international event in Europe. Before his performance, a DJ played “Jagajaga”, and Obasanjo unaware of the track was seen dancing to it.

However, once the former president realised the song was the same one he had earlier condemned, his mood reportedly changed instantly, and he left the event abruptly.

The story highlights the lasting impact of “Jagajaga”, a song that sparked national conversation for its criticism of governance and the state of the country.
