Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Enzo Maresca following his departure from Chelsea, saying the club has lost a good manager.
Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League match against Chelsea, Guardiola described Maresca as an excellent coach and person.
“I think Chelsea have lost a good manager,” Guardiola told Sky Sports on Friday. “From my point of view, he is an incredible coach and an incredible person. But it is the decision of the Chelsea hierarchy, so there is nothing to say.”
Maresca left Chelsea on New Year’s Day, ending his short spell at Stamford Bridge. The club has named Calum McFarlane, the Under-21 team coach, as interim manager for Sunday’s away match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea are yet to announce a permanent replacement for Maresca.
Guardiola’s comments underline the respect Maresca has within the Premier League, despite Chelsea’s decision to part ways with him.
Chelsea now face a difficult test against the defending champions as McFarlane takes charge on a temporary basis.
