Chelsea’s revolving door at the managerial level has swung open once again and the man being tipped to walk in next may not be who many expected.
Strasbourg coach Liam Rosenior has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Enzo Maresca, who left Stamford Bridge on Thursday after just one season in charge.
Maresca’s exit, reportedly linked to internal tensions with the club’s hierarchy, has forced Chelsea into yet another reset as the owners continue their long-term rebuild.
BBC Sport reports that Rosenior, 41, is currently the frontrunner for the job, although Chelsea are still weighing other options.
The Englishman’s chances are believed to be strengthened by his links to Chelsea’s owners, BlueCo, who also own Ligue 1 side Strasbourg. That connection has reportedly earned Rosenior strong backing within the club.
A former Hull City manager, Rosenior has impressed in France and is seen as a coach who aligns with Chelsea’s data-driven and progressive recruitment model.
With speculation growing, Strasbourg are already said to be considering possible replacements should Rosenior be lured to west London.
Porto manager Francesco Farioli has also been mentioned as an alternative as Chelsea continue to assess the market.
Chelsea had previously looked at high-profile names such as Roberto De Zerbi, Kieran McKenna and Thomas Frank before appointing Maresca in 2024. Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva have also been linked with the role in the past.
