Tottenham Hotspur made it back-to-back Premier League wins under new manager Thomas Frank with another shock victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Spurs, who thrashed City 4-0 at the same ground last November, produced a strong defensive performance to claim all three points once more.
City started brighter as Omar Marmoush went close twice, forcing two saves from Guglielmo Vicario. But Tottenham struck first when Brennan Johnson tapped in Richarlison’s cross on the counter-attack. The flag went up for offside, but VAR awarded the goal.
Just before half-time, Joao Palhinha punished a mistake from City goalkeeper James Trafford to make it 2-0. It was a tough spell for Trafford, who moments earlier had risked a red card for a foul on Mohammed Kudus outside the box.
Erling Haaland missed a big chance to pull one back before the break, heading over from close range. Despite late pressure, City could not find a way through.
Tottenham held firm for their second clean sheet in two league matches, leaving City frustrated once again at home to their north London rivals.
