Former Barcelona midfielder Carles Perez has been hospitalized in Greece after a dog bit him on the genitals during a walk.
The 27-year-old, who currently plays for Aris FC on loan from Celta Vigo, was walking his dog in the Thermi area of Thessaloniki on Tuesday when the incident happened.
Reports say Perez was trying to separate his dog from another during a scuffle when he got injured. He was rushed to a private hospital in Panorama, where doctors treated a deep wound that required six stitches.
Aris FC confirmed on Wednesday that he suffered a soft tissue infection and would miss Thursday’s UEFA Conference League qualifier against Araz-Nakhchivan.
Coach Marinos Ouzounidis said Perez was meant to start the game.
“Carles would have been in the starting line-up. This incident happened, but we’ve prepared alternatives,” he said.
Perez made his senior debut for Barcelona in 2019 and has also played for Roma, Getafe, and Celta Vigo.
