Ezekiel Nathaniel has written his name in history after qualifying for the men’s 400m hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships with a time of 47.47 seconds.

The 21-year-old ended Nigeria’s 38-year wait in the event, becoming the first athlete since Henry Amike in 1987 to reach the final.

Nathaniel also finished with the fastest time overall, showing strong form as he aims for a medal.

He is the first African to make the final since Algeria’s Abdelmalik Lahoulou in 2019. If he makes the podium, he will join the late Nicholas Bett of Kenya, who last won the title for Africa in 2015.
