Nigerian rapper, actor, and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has clarified his approach to social advocacy, stating that he has never singled out individual politicians or specific political parties in his fight against bad governance.
The artist made the disclosure during an interview on Arise 360, where he addressed whether his outspoken activism has cost him lucrative corporate sponsorships and business opportunities. Falz revealed that a corporate group recently backed out of a potential partnership with his management team, citing concerns over his critical stance on Nigerian politics.
“The way I look at that is it was never meant for me. If you feel in any way attacked or feel like what I’m doing is in any way directed at you… then maybe I don’t even want to be there,” Falz stated.
Focusing on systemic issues, not individuals
Addressing the pushback from corporate entities, the “This is Nigeria” star explained that his commentary is aimed at systemic issues and bad practices rather than partisan politics or personal attacks. He emphasized that his critiques are completely non-partisan, focused solely on the realities of daily life in the country.
The activist-musician further argued that any brand or individual who takes issue with his fight against systemic corruption is fundamentally part of the problems plaguing the country. Rather than watering down his message to appease advertisers, Falz maintained that speaking the truth about the struggles of everyday Nigerians remains his top priority, regardless of the financial impact.
