Afrobeats star Davido has hinted at the possibility of stepping back from active music production, stating that he does not plan to compete with younger artists once he turns 40.
Speaking on The Uncut Podcast, the 33-year-old singer revealed he may take an extended hiatus from recording and performing to focus on other business ventures.

Davido clarified that his comments were not a call for older musicians to retire, comparing his potential hiatus to Jay-Z’s career choices. He noted that his extensive music catalogue provides enough security for him to step away from the industry for up to a decade without losing his audience.
“Music is my blood but I won’t be 40 years and still dragging with guys in their 20s. Jay-Z took a break and he is doing his thing,” Davido said. “I can take a 10yrs break and still do a 50-arena tour. I have the catalogue. I might decide not to make another song for the rest of my life, and nobody is touching my catalogue.”
He added that music should ultimately serve as a launching pad for artists to build legacy outside of recording: “All I am saying is there are other things music should be able to help you branch out into.”
