Inter Milan refocus on Serie A title hopes after Champions League triumph

After their historic win over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, Inter Milan return to Serie A action on Sunday with a must-win game away at Torino.

The Italian champions shocked the football world on Tuesday by beating Barcelona and securing a spot in the Champions League final in Munich, where they’ll face Paris Saint-Germain later this month. But while celebrations continue, Inter must now shift focus back to their fading league title hopes.

Currently three points behind leaders Napoli, Inter have just three matches left to try and retain the Scudetto. Their schedule is tough, with games against Torino, Champions League hopefuls Lazio, and in-form Como.

Inter manager Simone Inzaghi insists his team hasn’t picked one competition over another. “We’ve given our all in everything,” he said after the Barca win. But the demands of competing on multiple fronts have clearly taken a toll.

Meanwhile, Napoli are closing in on their fourth Serie A title. They face Genoa, Parma, and Cagliari in their remaining fixtures—teams all currently in the lower half of the table and possibly safe from relegation soon. Napoli have also won their last four games without conceding, making them firm favourites to lift the trophy.

While the title race narrows, the battle for next season’s Champions League spots is heating up. Juventus, Roma, and Lazio are all tied on 63 points. Juve travel to Lazio on Saturday, while Roma, unbeaten in 19 league games, head to third-placed Atalanta on Monday.

Roma’s solid form has been boosted by goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who has kept things tight at the back. The Serbian shot-stopper has made 111 saves this season—more than half from inside the box—and has helped Roma concede just eight goals in 2025.

Bologna, just a point behind the top four, face AC Milan on Friday and will also meet them again in next week’s Italian Cup final. Coach Vincenzo Italiano is eyeing both a European spot and a long-awaited trophy.
