Former England youth international and ex-Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has officially switched his international allegiance to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The 26-year-old, who now plays for West Ham United, has earned his first call-up to the Congolese national team, known as the Leopards. He was named among the 27 players selected by head coach Sébastien Desabre for upcoming friendly matches against Mali and Madagascar.
The games are scheduled for June 5 and June 8, 2025, at the Stade de la Source in Orléans, France.
Wan-Bissaka, who previously played for England at under-20 and under-21 levels, will now get a chance to represent the country of his heritage at the senior level. His inclusion is expected to strengthen the right side of the Leopards’ defence.
Other defenders in the squad include Arthur Masuaku (Beşiktaş), Axel Tuanzebe (Ipswich Town), Chancel Mbemba (Olympique Marseille), and Joris Kayembe (Genk). The squad also features European-based stars such as Yoane Wissa (Brentford), Cédric Bakambu (Real Betis), and Charles Pickel (Cremonese).
The two friendlies are part of DR Congo’s preparations for future international competitions, as Coach Desabre looks to build a strong team ahead of major tournaments.
