Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has been named head judge for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), ahead of the official unveiling of the nominees.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Silva described the role as a “deep responsibility,” noting that the AMVCA has grown beyond an awards ceremony to become a key cultural institution celebrating African storytelling.
“This year marks a defining moment in the evolution of the awards. With new categories representing North and Central Africa, the AMVCA now reflects the depth and diversity of storytelling across the continent,” she said.
Silva added that the judging process would prioritize fairness, credibility, and professionalism, ensuring that winners are recognised for the mastery of their craft rather than popularity alone.
“Our responsibility is to honour the depth of craft and the excellence that continues to elevate African cinema globally,” she stated.
Segun Ogunleye, head of marketing for Africa partner markets at Diageo, also highlighted the company’s debut as a full portfolio sponsor of the AMVCA, with Don Julio serving as the headline sponsor. He described the partnership as a milestone reflecting Diageo’s commitment to celebrating culture and creativity across Africa.
