Pop singer Justin Timberlake has announced that he is battling Lyme disease.
The 44-year-old made the revelation on Instagram shortly after wrapping up his world tour, which had faced some criticism from fans.
He described the disease as “relentlessly debilitating,” saying it has affected him both physically and mentally.
“I’ve been battling some health issues and was diagnosed with Lyme disease,” Timberlake said. “When I first got the diagnosis I was shocked… but at least I could understand why I was in so much pain or feeling exhausted on stage.”
Lyme disease is caused by bacteria carried by ticks. It can lead to joint pain, fatigue, and nerve problems. In serious cases, it can affect the immune system.
Timberlake said he didn’t share the news for sympathy, but to explain what he’s been going through behind the scenes.
Last year, the singer was also in the spotlight after he was arrested for drunk driving near New York. He later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was sentenced to community service.
