Kylian Mbappe was on target again as Real Madrid defeated Espanyol 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday to maintain their perfect start to the La Liga season.
Eder Militao gave Madrid the lead after 22 minutes with a thunderous strike from distance. Mbappe then sealed the victory early in the second half, finishing off a move created by Vinicius Junior.
The win makes it five league wins out of five for Xabi Alonso’s men, who now sit five points clear at the top of the table.
Espanyol came into the game in third place but were no match for Madrid’s dominance. Vinicius also hit the post, while goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic denied Mbappe twice before the Frenchman eventually found the net.
Late on, Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga made their first appearances of the season after recovering from injuries.
Earlier, Levante thrashed Girona 4-0, leaving last season’s surprise Champions League qualifiers bottom of the league without a win.
